SUPERNOVA (English)
Imploding stars or “Supernovas” are the inspiration for this spectacular composition for percussion ensemble.
A star such as the sun is an essential source of energy to man and earth. A symbol of light and joy, it is musically depicted as the beginning of new life. Yet a star is also a mysterious globe of fire ruled by nuclear fusions, eruptions and solar winds. It can implode or fade out at any time.
Solar wind, big bangs, a sunrise. Suddenly the romantic starry sky has to make room for the danger of the unknown. A supernova’s explosion produces a source of sparkling light with the force of billions of suns, dominating the sky. However beauty and threat never lie far apart. The spectator is carried away into a mystic universe of icy emptiness, shooting stars and bright sunlight. Unpredictable and infinite like the cosmos, the piece ends in a mysterious black hole.

SUPERNOVA (Nederlands)
Imploderende sterren of "supernova's" zijn de inspiratie voor dit spectaculaire werk voor percussie-ensemble.
Een ster als de zon is een onmisbare energiebron voor mens en aarde. Ze wordt muzikaal weergegeven als het begin van alle leven, het symbool van licht en vreugde. Maar een ster is ook een onberekenbare bol van vuur waarop kernfusies, erupties en zonnewinden vrij spel hebben. Ze kan op elk moment imploderen, of juist doven.
U hoort de zonnewind, een oerknal, een zonsopkomst. De romantische
sterrenhemel moet plots plaats maken voor het gevaar van het onbekende.
De explosie van een supernova zorgt voor een gigantische bron van
sprankelend licht met de kracht van miljarden zonnen en domineert de
hemel. Maar pracht en dreiging liggen nooit ver van elkaar. De toeschouwer
wordt meegesleept in het mystieke universum met ijzige leegtes, vallende
sterren en schitterend zonlicht. Onvoorspelbaar en oneindig zoals het
heelal, eindigt het werk in een raadselachtig zwart gat.
